Industry Technology Roadmap for Virtual Prototyping (Final)
Final report is now available
online.
Welcome
to the CWIC Site
CWIC is a project that exists to further the
innovative use of Information Technology in the Australian construction
industry. Currently it is funded by the Federal Government, supported
by many industry partners, and managed by the IAI
Australasia Chapter.
What is CWIC?
CWIC (pronounced as "Quick") stands
for Collaborative Working in Construction. Successful building development
depends entirely on the collaborative communication between diverse design,
construction and operational professionals. The key is to use information
technology tools to facilitate collaboration between business partners.
Up to now, information technology has been used to aid existing communication
processes, but has had little or no impact on creating new and effective
collaboration processes that deliver quality design, engineering, construction
and maintenance of the building to the client.
It doesn't have to be this way: Information technology can be used to
enable new processes and communication among AEC/FM professionals. We
offer three important concepts/methodologies to facilitate the industry
uptake of the latest CWIC technologies, viz: vision, roadmap, and practice.
CWIC is a name that offers some bias toward processes. It has a another
name: virtual prototyping (VP), which is more oriented to work methodology,
i.e. to design, simulate, review and change before we commence building.
Mission
| 1. |
To define a future vision for Collaborative Working in Construction
by involving the whole Australian AEC/FM industry. |
| 2. |
To develop and maintain a roadmap for implementing the CWIC vision. |
| 3. |
To provide non-threatening hands-on opportunities for the industry
partners to field test the technology and cultural change elements
in the CWIC roadmap of their choice. |
What we do
We support two key initiatives, namely the CWIC
Roadmapping programme and the CWIC Hands-on
programme.
